Toronto Festivals Calendar: Major Annual Events by Month

Toronto’s main recurring festivals run from May to November: Doors Open in spring, Pride and Luminato in June, Caribbean Carnival and the Canadian National Exhibition in summer, the film festival in September, Nuit Blanche in October and the Santa Claus Parade in November. Dates move from year to year, so this guide gives the windows organizers have published (as of October 2026) and tells you which ones to confirm before booking.

How to use this calendar

Most of Toronto’s large festivals are annual, but none has a fixed date. A festival tied to a long weekend or to a Saturday moves by a few days each year, and some change length or location. The dates below are the ones the organizers or the City of Toronto had published when this page was checked in October 2026. Many 2026 events have already finished, so for those the page gives the 2026 dates as a guide to the usual timing, and a 2027 date only where the organizer has announced one.

Where an organizer has not yet announced the next edition, this page says so rather than guessing. Before you book a hotel, a flight or tickets, check the organizer’s own announcement. Street closures, transit detours and programme details are published close to each event and often change.

May: Doors Open Toronto

Doors Open Toronto is a free event that lets the public into buildings and sites that are normally closed or charge admission. The City of Toronto says it began in 2000. In 2026 it took place on the weekend of May 23 and 24, according to the Toronto Society of Architects, which co-hosts it. The City’s own event page, updated in September 2026, says the next edition is scheduled for May 29 and 30, 2027.

Sites and opening hours differ, and the list of buildings is released shortly before the weekend. If you like architecture, the weekend pairs well with a visit to places covered elsewhere on this site, such as Old City Hall or Osgoode Hall, though the list of participating buildings changes each year and these are not guaranteed to take part.

June: Pride and Luminato

Pride Toronto. The festival weekend in 2026 ran from June 25 to 28, with the parade on Sunday, June 28, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., according to Pride Toronto. Pride Toronto had not published 2027 dates when this page was checked. Pride is held in June, but the exact weekend changes with the calendar, so wait for the announcement. The history of the march is told in our article on the Toronto Pride Parade.

Luminato. The arts festival marked its 20th edition in 2026, running from June 3 to 28 across the city. The festival described it as the longest in its history, with more than 50 free and ticketed events at over 25 locations. Earlier editions have also been held in June, but the length has varied, so confirm the 2027 dates with Luminato once they are announced.

July and August: Caribbean Carnival, Taste of the Danforth and the CNE

Toronto Caribbean Carnival. Better known by its older name, Caribana, the festival began in 1967 as part of Canada’s centennial celebrations, according to The Canadian Encyclopedia. The Grand Parade is the main day. Caribana Toronto’s website lists the 2027 festival from Thursday, July 29, to Monday, August 2, with the Grand Parade on Saturday, July 31, 2027, along Lakeshore Boulevard. Note that this is a week earlier than the “first Saturday of August” description in older sources, which shows why you should check the year. More background is in our history of Caribana.

Taste of the Danforth. The Greektown street festival returned on August 7 to 9, 2026, after not being held in 2024 and 2025, according to the City of Toronto and news reports. The City placed the 2026 event on the Danforth in Greektown, and news reports said admission was free. No 2027 dates had been announced when this page was checked. Read about the neighbourhood in Greektown on the Danforth.

Canadian National Exhibition. The fair on the lakefront grounds at Exhibition Place first ran in 1879 as the Toronto Industrial Exhibition and took its present name in 1912, per The Canadian Encyclopedia. It runs for 18 days from late August to Labour Day. The CNE’s website lists the 2027 dates as August 20 to September 6. The story of the grounds and the fair is in our CNE history.

September: Toronto International Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival, usually called TIFF, takes over the downtown core for about ten days each September. The 51st edition ran from September 10 to 20, 2026, according to the festival’s published programme as summarized by Wikipedia. I did not find 2027 dates announced as of October 2026. Screenings are ticketed, and sale dates are announced by the festival ahead of each edition. If you plan to attend, book accommodation early and allow extra time downtown. The festival’s story is in our TIFF history.

October and November: Nuit Blanche and the Santa Claus Parade

Nuit Blanche. The City of Toronto describes it as an all-night celebration of contemporary art that takes place every fall. The 20th edition ran from 7 p.m. on October 3 to 7 a.m. on October 4, 2026, with free admission, according to a listing for the event; the first Nuit Blanche was held in 2006. Locations and artists change each year, and the date for 2027 had not been announced when this page was checked.

The Original Santa Claus Parade. The parade’s website lists the 122nd parade for Sunday, November 22, 2026, and marks the route as “coming soon.” According to Wikipedia, the first parade was held on December 2, 1905, and was started by the Eaton’s department store; our article on Eaton’s covers the company. If you plan to attend, look for road-closure notices a few days before the parade, because the route has been changed in the past.

Planning around the dates

Large events fill hotels and strain transit, so plan the route to the site before you leave. The Toronto Transit Commission and GO Transit usually publish detours and extra service for the biggest weekends, and subway or streetcar closures are possible. See Union Station if you are arriving by regional train.

If your trip is not tied to a festival, the city has plenty to do between events; our list of free things to do in Toronto is a good place to start. For a day away from the city, see the guides to Niagara Falls, Stratford and Muskoka. Whatever you choose, confirm dates, tickets and any fees with the organizer before travelling, because everything above can change.
